Prabin Lakhaju is an ethnomusicologist with a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the Department of Music at Kathmandu University. He graduated with a Higher Jazz Diploma in Jazz Music, specializing in drums, from the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory, which deepened his expertise in rhythm and improvisation.
As a former archive assistant at the Nepal Music Archive, Prabin played a crucial role in preserving the rich musical heritage of Nepal. His research projects include a focus on folk music and the role of music education in madal drumming, reflecting his commitment to both academic inquiry and practical teaching.
An accomplished percussionist and multi-instrumentalist, Prabin has performed in various music festivals including echoes in the valley, katjazz festival. As the founder of the instrumental trio Fret, Prabin explores innovative musical compositions and fusion styles, continuing to push boundaries and connect cultures through music. His passion for music and dedication to cultural preservation resonate with audiences both locally and internationally.
He is currently a percussionist (Nagarā) at Kuma Sagar and The Khwopa. Additionally, he is a dedicated music teacher, inspiring the next generation of musicians.
